What is Basque Food?

Have you ever wondered what is Basque food? Today’s episode is a fantastic interview with John Arant. He is the owner of the Martin Hotel. This is a unique Basque restaurant in Winnemucca, Nevada.

The Martin Hotel has a rich history that stretches back to 1878. They are Nevada’s oldest restaurant. Sometime around the late 1890s it became a restaurant and tavern, as well as a hotel. Today it serves the community as a restaurant only.

Their focus is on amazing food using Basque recipes that have been handed down from owner to owner through the years. They represent the essence of Basque shepherd culture in the Western United States. You have to check these guys out!

What is Basque Food? Garlic and Meat Please

The Martin has slow roasted meats, pastas, and lots and lots of garlic. It is a hearty meal that is shared with people around a table. It is a unique dining setting where you sit around the table with strangers, order an entree and then enjoy a 5 course meal together. John is quick to point out that this form of dining is the reason for their longevity. It just works.

Where To Find The Martin Hotel?
