The Red Pepper

On today’s episode we travel back to North Dakota to visit The Red Pepper. The Red Pepper started back in the 60s and quickly became a Grand Forks institution. Jeff Tellmann comes on the show to talk all about his family’s history with owning this amazing gem.

The History of The Red Pepper

The Red Pepper began in the 1960s. It was run initially by college students who treated it as a hobby and a party spot. Bruce Tellmann was a writer for a local paper in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He loved the food so much, he felt he had to get more involved.

In 1973, Bruce purchased The Red Pepper. He felt it just needed some leadership and stability and it would be a hit! Under his leadership and guidance, people were able to get the famous grinder sandwiches and tacos they knew and loved.

Today that legacy is carried by Bruce’s son, Jeff Tellmann. Today’s Red Pepper remains unchanged. Jeff continues to do what works. He is the first to admit that the food is simple. However, just because it is simple doesn’t mean it’s not amazing!
